Lead Senate Candidate Tasmania

Karen has been an animal lover all her life, becoming vegetarian by choice as a child. She has been involved in the animal rights and vegan movements for over twenty years. Tasmanian born, she became involved with the Coalition Against Duck Shooting and Animal Liberation in Victoria in the 1990s, before relocating to Northern NSW and starting a small active group there with her partner.

Moving back to Tasmania 12 years ago, Karen coordinated Vegetarian Tasmania for many years. This included running information stalls, vegan social events, movie screenings, and proactively promoting the compassionate, health and environmental reasons for lifestyle change via public speaking engagements and media opportunities.She has also been involved with Animals Tasmania, coordinating the recent March to End Slaughter, starting the successful Bushfire Fund for Wildlife after the Dunalley fires in 2014, and developing a Wildlife Education Kit distributed to every school in Tasmania.

Karen has a BA in Sociology and Philosophy, and a Grad. Dip. in Human Nutrition. She lives south of Hobart with her vegan family, and 21 rescued and re-homed non-humans, on a registered Land for Wildlife property.
