Winter is upon us. The days are cold and the nights are colder. Spare a thought for the many animals that don't have any shelter or warmth, and the many that will perish in the cold...young lambs especially. For introduced animals, family, farm or (so called) feral, the Australian climate may be a killer. Let's work towards a world where such threats to animals are minimised or eliminated.
Jeffrey Masson event report
We had a great time at the recent Jeffrey Masson fundraiser at Cider House. Jeffrey is a fantastic speaker and now a great advocate for the AJP! Thanks to all who came, and to our Fundraising Manager, Vanessa Brown, for organising it.
Do you have an idea for an AJP fundraiser? Perhaps you would like to hold an event in your area? If so, our Fundraising Manager (Vanessa) would love to hear from you. We are planning our fundraising schedule for the rest of 2015 and are actively seeking members to get involved in raising funds for the party. Vanessa will be attending a regional volunteers meeting in your area soon. In the meantime, feel free to email her on [email protected] if you think you can assist.
We are always after more volunteers to get involved in running one aspect of the party or another. Right now we have a need for help with the following tasks:
- Marketing: Various promotions and campaigns we would run, if we had somebody to run them.
- Economic Analysis: We need to understand some of the animal industries better. Where does the cash flow from and to?
If you can help, please contact us on [email protected]
- We are always looking for new volunteers to help with AJP stalls at community markets and events. If you can help, please contact our stalls coordinator, Chris DeJonge on [email protected]

A committee of three was voted in to perform Senate Pre-selection for next years (we think) Federal election. Thanks to Nyree Walshe, Eleonora Gullone and Latifa Karmay for volunteering to help. They will ask for nominations and assess candidates to determine which people will be our candidates for the upper house (Senate) election.
Meanwhile, nominations for lower house seats closes in several regional areas at the end of July.
Human Resources and Training
Thanks to Fiona Mcrostie for agreeing to come on board as our HR and Training Manager for AJP in Victoria. Fiona will be working over the next period to define a range of training courses to uplift our skills as activists, candidates and electioneers. She will also be putting in place some standards and procedures for how we manage the many volunteers who run this party.
Homeless Hounds Trivia Night
Some of our AJP members are putting on a trivia night fundraiser for a local, volunteer-based charity, Homeless Hounds, that works to save dogs, cats and other animals from being put down and finds them, new loving homes.
All proceeds go towards helping the animals, including paying for vet bills, food and accommodation.
A strong emphasis has been made on ensuring that all food and prizes on the night are animal-friendly. There will be a range of cruelty-free food available, and drinks available at bar prices. A silent auction will be conducted on the night with lots of great items on offer, with a heap of prizes to be given away, too. Bruce Poon will be speaking on the night to publicise the party and the AJP will also be having a stall to sell our merchandise and join up new members.
Tickets are $20 each or book a whole table of 10 for $180. To purchase tickets click on this link:

Our next monthly meeting is this Thursday, 23 July at 6:30pm, Ross House at 247 Flinders Lane in the CBD.
There will be a report and discussion of current campaigns, upcoming elections and everything else going on in the party over the next few months.
