Bronwen Baker Candidate for Windermere ward City of Greater Geelong

Bronwen Baker
Candidate for Windermere Ward City of Greater Geelong

I was born in Geelong and after moving away for a short time, moved back at age sixteen and have lived here ever since. I love the mix of country town and small city, and the proximity to a wide variety of beautiful beaches and countryside. I truly believe we have the best of all worlds here in Geelong.

My interests revolve around both people and animals. I volunteer as co-manager for a local animal rescue centre where I focus on the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of domestic animals in need, in particular cats and dogs who have either been surrendered or rescued from unfortunate situations. I also volunteer as the Animal Justice Party Western Region Membership Manager.

I’m standing as a candidate in the Windermere ward in the upcoming City of Greater Geelong council election because I believe being a councillor is a fantastic opportunity to "be the change I want to see" for Geelong. Previous councillors have let us down, yet the same individuals are asking us to elect them again. It's time for a council that is progressive, transparent and accountable. We need new ideas and fresh thoughts, with fairness, honesty and equality as a baseline. This is what I stand for, and what I will work to deliver.

Our community has produced an exciting blue-print for a Clever and Creative Future. We need the right team to drive it. I'll bring vital skills, commitment and energy to that team.

In addition, I'll give a voice to the people of Windermere. The North is the gateway to Geelong, and home to some of our most disadvantaged and marginalised citizens. City funds have been poured into other areas while the Northern suburbs and outlying townships have missed out on even the basics. We deserve more, and I'll passionately pursue our fair share.

And of course, I'll stand up for our much-loved animal companions! We pay six million dollars a year in pet registration fees, yet the council fails to provide financial support to the struggling Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS). I believe our non-human friends deserve better.

I love to connect with my local community so if you have any questions or would like to share the issues that are most important to you please don’t hesitate to email me at
