Chris Miles Moreland 2020
CHRIS MILES - MORELAND COUNCIL
Chris is standing for Moreland Council in North-West Ward.
Chris is a caring, compassionate, hard worker. With a strong combination of local knowledge, approachability and passion for animals and people, Chris is committed to serving the community as a Councillor
Chris has been a passionate advocate for animal rights, ever since realising that there are no differences between the animals he knows and loves, the kangaroos in the bush, and the cows out in the paddock. It was this moment of realisation that led him to dedicate himself to creating a kinder and more compassionate world - for animals, people and the environment.
“I want to bring attention to the Moreland kangaroo population. I believe that animals that are our national icon and appear on our emblem must be treated with the respect they deserve. We must do better by them when planning for developments in the Moreland area. Currently, not enough is done.”
“I have big plans to make Moreland a more compassionate place. For instance, extending Meals on Wheels to include food delivery for animals that are in the care of elderly residents. They are beloved companions who matter so much to the people and should be considered part and parcel of the family unit. We also need to improve our sustainability, decrease our environmental footprint and create local jobs by developing a green waste facility.”
One of the most impactful events in Chris’s life was losing his brother to suicide. The experience pushed him to advocate for improved mental health support and resources across the Moreland community, especially for veterans and those dealing with PTSD. He is committed to creating a Mens’ Shed built in the area to provide an alternative form of outreach to those who may not be comfortable to reach out for help in other ways.
“I promise to work hard to make a better life for all residents of Moreland - both animals and people.”
