Nyree Walshe is the candidate for Chisholm
Nyree is a Medical Scientist deeply committed to the replacement of animals in scientific research and teaching. She is a member of PETA Australia and Humane Research Australia and is currently working with HRA and La Trobe University on a paper canvassing the views of tertiary students on the use of animals in their courses of study and their attitudes towards the introduction of conscientious objection policies to animal use in Universities. She is a member of the Animal Protection Societies at La Trobe University and Melbourne University.
She recently completed a Master of Health Administration at La Trobe University and has over 20 years’ experience in the public and private health sectors.
She joined the Animal Justice Party in 2011 and stood as a candidate in the 2013 Federal Election in the Seat of Melbourne and was the Upper House candidate for the Southern Metropolitan Region in the 2014 Victorian State Election. She has chosen to be a candidate once again because she believes that animals deserve not only compassion, but legal protection, and this can only be available to them through legislation.
