Sadly most animals that are tested on in Australian laboratories are either killed or reused
The Animal Justice Party is working with Human Research Australia and Beagle Freedom Australia to give all laboratories the opportunity to rehome their animals after testing.
While the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes encourages rehoming, and despite support and approval for rehoming, such practices are not always taking place, presumably because the practice is not mandated. As a result hundreds of healthy cats and dogs are being killed for no reason.
This petition is requesting the Legislative Council call on the Government to instate a Bill that ensures a state wide system takes the place of the current voluntary practice which is failing to provide rehoming opportunities for all these animals. Such a Bill would open up the lines of communication between research facilities and rescue and rehoming centres to give cats and dogs used in research the opportunity to be rehomed.
The Animal Justice Party opposes the use of animals in experimentation and rehoming these animals would be a positive step in the right direction.
After the immense pain these animals have endured the very least we can do is give them a forever home where they'll be treated with love and kindness for the rest of their days.
Your support will help us negotiate the release of as many animals as possible.
